The All Party Parliamentary Group on Occupational Safety & Health
May 8th 2007

On Tuesday 15th May, Michael Clapham MP, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Occupational Safety & Health is hosting a British Safety Industry Federation reception. The BSIF hope this will start a process that will lead to a more informed approach to occupational safety and health.

In particular, BSIF would like to highlight to MPs the anomalies of VAT on some safety items but not others, which leads to the question, is the small business being handicapped in cost terms when supplying essential safety equipment?

In addition, we will discuss the need to ensure correct selection and advice relating to PPE. Recent reports have highlighted inadequate performance in some areas and support and assistance in overcoming this is essential.

With the meeting due to be held in the House of Commons at lunchtime, it is hoped a number of MPs will attend for informal discussions and a chance to meet lead players in the Safety Industry.
