Working safely at height
May 8th 2007

Falls from height are the main cause of death and injury in the workplace, but mention work at height and many people automatically think of building or roofwork. In reality work at height is an essential part of many jobs including window cleaning, office maintenance and even stacking shelves in a supermarket.

Common reasons for accidents occurring include failure to recognise a problem or provide appropriate safety equipment and lack of training or supervision. With this in mind, Safesite has developed a range of services which are designed to help companies ensure that all forms of work at height are carried out safely.

Safesite’s work at height assessments are tailored to the customer’s specific requirements and include an examination of the work area or operation being proposed, a detailed report on the findings together with practical recommendations on how to carry out the work safely.

The company’s RIBA CPD accredited and RICS supported training courses include an introduction to work at height for managers, supervisors and employees as well as specialist training for designers, health and safety managers, those responsible for work at height and end users of equipment.

Whatever the work, whether it be construction, office based, maintenance or repair, training is essential. By making safety a priority and improving people’s awareness of the risks involved and ensuring a safe working environment is provided, companies can limit the dangers associated with working at height.
