Is it real PPE? October 1st 2007 Have you ever been offered a Rolex watch at a seriously knock down price? Or those really cheap DVDs where the end of the film is missing. Fakes and copies are a major problem, but of course ‘fake’ PPE could be lethal. You might not just miss the end of the film, but all of it.
The BSIF has become increasingly aware that product is entering the market place, with dubious CE certification or made as look-a-likes to current product, but these most certainly do not give full and certified protection.
At the recent A+A Safety exhibition in Dusseldorf, German Trading Standards officers toured the halls. They were aware of the problem and wished to enforce compliance in each exhibitors range.
What should you do to ensure your life and health is not put at risk? Most sensibly, only purchase from reputable sources. If it is extremely cheap then ask yourself why? Check the product to ensure it is marked correctly and you have receive usage instructions with it. Does it look, feel and weigh the same?
If you have any suspicions contact the manufacturer and talk through your concerns. He will certainly be interested to find if copies are occurring and of course you may save far more.
