Safe Practices? It’s the law October 2nd 2007 When you buy a new washing machine, part of your legal protection is the Sale of Goods act. It gives you confidence that, if your machine doesn’t work properly straight out of the box, there is a remedy available to you. Simple - or it should be.
So, which additional legislation applies when selling safety goods? How about the CE standards issues, the Health & Safety at Work acts, terms and conditions of sale and purchase, risk assessments, selecting the correct product to meet the risk and a whole host of other issues?
Because it could be very confusing, and the importance of getting it right, in terms of safety, is essential, the BSIF run a specific training course entitled ‘SafeSupply’. The course clearly spells out the legal and technical requirements of supplying safety goods. This includes ensuring the requirements of the safety legislation are complied with, the level of information supplied is correct and in sufficient detail and the supplier has fulfilled his supplier duties to the customer.
The course is focused toward people from the supply side of the safety industry and so far BSIF have trained substantially over 100 people. Each now fully understands their responsibilities. The feedback from the courses has proved very strong and enhanced the professionalism, not just of the individual, but the companies they work for.
