Well meaning amateurs need not apply
October 2nd 2007

Unqualified and inexperienced people are putting people in danger at work, the Chartered body for health and safety professionals told visitors to September's CIPD annual conference and exhibition.

Lisa Fowlie, IOSH president, launched the ‘Get the best’ campaign at the Institution’s conference earlier this year:

"As the law stands it’s too easy for anyone to operate as a health and safety professional regardless of the skills, experience and qualifications they have. Giving bad advice threatens lives and costs business a fortune."

Hazel Harvey, IOSH’s director of professional affairs, said:

“This isn’t a job for well-meaning amateurs. HR professionals need to know they’re getting the right people to manage health and safety for their business."
