DSE: Know the facts
August 19th 2008 Although the Display Screen Equipment Regulations of 1992 require employers to provide health and safety information and training, most users remain unaware of the full extent of injury resulting from poor work station habits. RSIs and upper limb disorders, for example, can all be avoided by following good practice, and Safety Media has this month launched a training DVD which explains how.
Safety Media says it is the first health and safety film producer to launch a high definition product, and ‘DSE – The Facts’ is now available in DVD and Blu Ray formats. The 20 minute presentation takes a fresh approach to a subject that affects millions of people, using expert interviews and clear examples of how poor DSE habits can affect your health, from your eyes and neck to your wrist and back. It addresses workstation issues and portable devices, laptops, electrical safety, and the value of correct posture and frequent breaks.
The DSE Regulations 1992 came into effect in January 1993, and since then the computer has become as ubiquitous as the telephone in every office. The regulations anticipated this change and stipulated that adequate training and information, proper breaks or changes in activity, eye tests and suitable work stations accompanied the computer revolution in every workplace.
The new DSE training product joins an extensive range of ‘The Facts’ health and safety DVD’s by Safety Media that covers subjects ranging from accident investigation to warehouse safety.
