Managing workplace noise and vibration? Confident about your competence? January 3rd 2008 Working closely with senior HSE specialists, the Institute of Acoustics, the UK’s professional body for those working in acoustics, noise and vibration, has developed a series of short competence-focused courses concerned with the management of workplace noise and vibration exposure.
The courses address the practical implementation of the recently-introduced Control of Noise at Work Regulations and the Control of Vibration at Work Regulations in the workplace.
The five-day Certificate of Competence in Workplace Noise Risk Assessment has been designed to address the legal and practical aspects of noise control in the workplace, and provides a nationally recognised qualification. Courses are held twice each year in the spring and autumn at accredited centres throughout the UK. There is an examination on the fifth day of the course.
The Institute also offers a five-day examined Certificate course in the management of occupational exposure to hand-arm vibration.
This course seeks to enable course delegates to appreciate:
• The nature of Hand-Arm Vibration hazards in the workplace
• The need to protect employees from hand-arm vibration syndrome and
• The importance of advising and assisting employers to meet their legal duties under relevant health and safety law, in accordance with current guidance from the Health and Safety Executive
