British Safety Industry Federation:- How do we benefit our members?
November 3rd 2008

The British Safety Industry Federation is the recognised trade body for the supply side of the Safety Industry, the lead association for the PPE directive and is recognised as a competent authority by the Health & Safety Executive.

But what does that mean and what benefits do you gain as a member?

At the heart of the organisation our intention is to ensure the continued development of occupational safety to both reduce injuries and benefit our members in their commercial activities. To achieve this we have four clear aims.

Representation through a collective industry voice to Government and its agencies (i.e. Health & Safety Executive, Trading Standards, UKTi) to ensure occupational safety is at the forefront of future plans.

Input into future standards formulation / amendments and rapid dissemination of that information to members to ensure they fully understand and meet future standards and performance requirements.

Commercial assistance to communicate more effectively to users (in the UK and a strong focus upon export markets). Operation of industry wide promotional programmes (often in conjunction with the HSE or other bodies) and other activities to further develop the safety market.

Collective action to maintain a fair and growing market place, untroubled by unsatisfactory or illegal activities (i.e. non CE approved or copy product, unethical behaviour etc). Part of this is to provide forums / networking opportunities to discuss, on an industry wide basis, issues and outline future joint actions.
