Withdrawal of fake CE approval certificates for PPE
November 3rd 2008

Following the advice given in our last newsletter, regarding a number of PPE products on the UK safety marked claiming false compliance to CE norms, a few cases have recently come to light. The enclosed memo from a French test house is typical of the current circumstances being highlighted.

"I hereby inform you about the existence and circulation of, at least, three EC-Type Examination Certificates, dated on of 8 March 2004, for Personal Protective Equipment concerning Gloves Model NL-3000 and their version NL-1001C, NL-3005, NL-3006, NL-3010; Gloves model NL-3066 and their version NL-1027, NL-808, NL-3071 and NL-3073 and Gloves model NL-3096 and their version NL-3098, NL-3100, NL-3106 and NL-3107. All of them belong to the manufacturing company with Pakistani address NAZ LEATHER INDUSTRIES, with the report numbers 217.852, 217,855 y 217.856. The above mentioned certificates were never issued by LEITAT."

Ensuring any PPE you supply is appropriately approved is essential. However, making sure they are genuine and properly certificated is becoming an increasing need. Ask yourself:

• Did the product seem exceptionally cheap?

• Did you buy it from a reputable source?

• Does the product appear, feel and weigh the same as previous items purchased?

• Is your supplier able to show your certificates?

Lets face it, when a fake Rolex stops, you can’t tell the time, when Safety items fail the consequences could be far worse!
