Meeting the PPE challenge
February 1st 2008

However challenging conditions may be, GORE-TEX products can provide effective PPE solutions to keep workers warm, dry and comfortable on the job.

Gore’s partners in the industrial workwear markets, who include many major employers in UK and Europe, recognise that GORE-TEX fabrics can be the optimum choice for health and safety and also have cost advantages because they help employees to work more efficiently.

For example, 3-layer WINDSTOPPER trousers are invaluable for workers exposed to wind and water, such as employees of Securitas, the Swiss security services provider. They report that the trousers perform well in both cool and warm environments and are lightweight, breathable, water-repellent and pleasant on the skin.

Similarly, the demanding manual work in varying climates undertaken by employees of Severn Trent Water in the UK requires the best possible PPE. The company has selected highly breathable, durably waterproof GORE-TEX and WINDSTOPPER garments from Cosalt:Ballyclare which meet EN343 standard for foul weather protection and EN471 for high visibility. Severn Trent says they ensure the greatest protection and physiological comfort and is confident Gore will ‘continue to supply us with the performance we need.’

GORE-TEX membrane technology also works effectively in protective footwear by dissipating perspiration and repelling moisture. Leading manufacturer Sievi of Finland incorporates the GORE-TEX membrane into its products which match EN345 and EN347 standards. Sievi’s managing director, Markku Jokinen comments: "Our GORE-TEX footwear collection represents the highest possible standard in comfort and protection that can be afforded to those who work in a range of industries where safety is critical."
