Boozy builders' £50,000 trail of destruction September 12th 2008 Two Polish builders caused £50,000 worth of damage when they drove a digger truck to a local off-licence to pick up some more booze – after they ran out on site, reports Ananova.
Shocked onlookers are said to have just stopped and stared as Marek Cowalski, 27 and Tomasz Dzwonicki, 19, who were celebrating a birthday ploughed into parked cars, garden walls and fences and a set of traffic lights on their way from the site to the off-licence in Glogow, south-west Poland.
"You could see they were drunk a mile off - the digger was zigzagging across the street," commented a local shopkeeper. "No one tried to stop them because people were too stunned," added the shopkeeper.
Police were forced to step in when the merry workmen drove into a shop while they were attempting to reverse into a parking space outside the off-license.
Fire crews eventually managed to free the pair from the truck and they now face up to five years in jail for their antics.
With drinking laws more relaxed in Poland than they are in the UK, the site of workmen drinking on site is said not to be uncommon. More articles from HSM News Desk: |
