The best things in life are free August 28th 2009 The Fork Lift Truck Association is calling on anyone working near fork lift trucks to protect their friends and colleagues using a new range of special Safety Week resources – available free of charge from its website throughout September.
From Tuesday 1st September, the site will feature safety video clips, downloadable posters, and guidance and training DVDs… all without having to pay a penny.
Further offers will include discounted employee safety booklets and joining fees for the Safe User Group – a class of FLTA membership designed to help companies using fork lift trucks to keep abreast of safety regulations, developments and best practice.
Chief executive of the FLTA David Ellison explains: “On average, two UK workers are killed by fork lift trucks each September alone.
“We want to give everybody working in the industry the best possible chance of preventing these needless tragedies in their own workplace.”
Most of the resources were designed especially for this year’s Safety Week. These include six brand new posters – available at A4 print-size – for anyone working around forklifts to be able to print out and post in their workplace.
The Association will even encourage FLTA member companies to host the resources on their own sites in order to get the message across to as many people as possible.
While the resources will be online for the duration of September, the FLTA hopes their effects will be far more long-lasting.
David Ellison continues: “These Safety Week supplies are a means to an end. We hope that during September – usually the most dangerous month of the year to be around fork lift trucks – we’ll actually begin to see a noticeable drop-off in the number of accidents.
“If the industry can raise safety awareness enough to cut the number of incidents significantly, then it will hopefully be an easier task to keep accident-levels low on an ongoing basis.
“Together, we can act to ensure that no more friends, families and colleagues have to cope with losing a loved one in a fork lift truck accident.”
National Fork Lift Safety Week 2009 takes place 21st-27th September. For more information on Safety Week or the FLTA, visit www.fork-truck.org.uk
