The thirteenth annual BSIF Networking Day proved lucky for all who attended last month.

Designed to promote networking opportunities for everyone connected with the safety industry, some fifty companies and their customers sat down to the Gala Dinner, sponsored by the Safety & Health Expo 2010. The event was enhanced by the dinner wines, sponsored by Arco and after dinner, an Ompah band sponsored by Eurosafe.

The latest HSE figures (7th December 2011)

The latest 2010/11 figures from the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) show that 171 workers were killed at work, up from 147 fatalities in the previous 12 months. While, an estimated 1.2 million people who worked during the last year were suffering from an illness that they believed was caused or made worse by their current or past work, down from 1.3 million in 2009/10.

Recent research indicates that of the people needing to use respiratory protection about half do not use RPE (respiratory protective equipment). This same research shows that of the half that do use RPE, only half of them are using it correctly, have been properly fit-tested and have been adequately trained in its use and maintenance.
