Choosing Gloves – Simple right? December 9th 2009
Well it seems simple, everyone has an opinion yet lots of decisions are made on emotive and emotional preferences when it comes to choosing gloves. So why is it so difficult? Similar manufacturing facilities and processes are used across the globe which logically should lend itself to the same glove being used in the same application. So why are safety officers specifying so many different types and frequently providing the wrong product to the workforce to get the job done?
Gloves are unique in PPE as they are the membrane between the worker and the jobs they do so it is essential to match comfort with safety and ergonomics to ensure production lines can be kept running at optimal levels. The balance between comfort, safety and ergonomics creates many billions of possible combinations and that is just for the worker needs.
What makes it even more challenging is then to match a glove against this. The number of gloves offered by manufacturers and distributors in the UK totals many thousands. All explained correctly technically yet frequently in a language incomprehensible to the person choosing and using. In response to this ATG has been conducting extensive studies over recent years in factories to understand users’ fundamental needs. The results of this study have enabled ATG to develop and launch a focused range of products for professionals, called the proRange.
The proRange offers three brands with 10 products that cover the needs of 90% of the work done in the metal fabrication, assembly, petro-chemical or off-shore businesses.
