Supply chain – major source of advice February 13th 2009 To assist the generation of measurable objectives for the two respiratory protection schemes being mounted by the BSIF - the Fit2Fit fit-tester accreditation scheme and the "Clean-Air? - Take Care!" campaign, - the BSIF targeted SMEs in vulnerable sectors to find out more about how organisations decided to select, deploy and use respiratory protective equipment.
54% of the SME companies approached agreed to take part and 60% percent of those used their supplier as the major source of information and, not surprisingly, 85% did not have a resident safety manager. One of the questions referred to the risk assessment and whether this had identified the need for respiratory protection. Whilst 51% advised that it did identify this need 25% of those that said that it did not were nevertheless deploying respiratory protection.
"We have retained the specific information so that we can go back in the future to see if the panel have changed their attitudes or practices. This will provide us with a real measure of the success of the campaigns” said a BSIF Spokesman. More articles from BSIF Enterprise: |
