HSE issues guidance on link between nanotubes and cancer March 24th 2009 HSE has this month issued guidance on undertaking a risk assessment for carbon nanotubes in response, it says, to emerging evidence about the toxicology of these materials.
The information sheet issued by HSE is specifically about the manufacture and manipulation of carbon nanotubes but HSE says the risk management principles detailed are equally applicable to other nanodimensioned bio-persistent fibres with a similar aspect ratio.
The dangers posed by carbon nanotubes (CNTs) has been the subject of some debate because some CNTs are similar in shape to asbestos fibres and similar in their ability to persist in the lungs of labroratory animals.
