Swimming pool to close if 'too wet'
March 23rd 2009

An outdoor swimming pool, the London Fields Lido in Hackney, north London, has warned swimmers that the pool might have to be closed - if it gets 'too wet' according to reports in The Telegraph.

The health and safety rules are said to have been introduced at the lido in Hackney for the protection of the pool's users.

Recently swimmers at the pool were told they might have to leave the water if the heavy rain increased leading to suggestions that health and safety rules were being taken too far.

However Hackney Council said the rules were only enforced in extreme weather, when there was torrential rain, hail or thick fog because these conditions could reduce lifeguards' visibility.

"We make no apology for providing protection for swimmers from drowning," stressed a spokesperson for Hackney Council.
