Event aims to improve health & safety in Scotland
May 6th 2010

Taking place at the Royal Highland Centre, Edinburgh on the 15th and 16th September 2010 Health and Safety - Scotland will assist those in any sector with a need for easy access to health and safety information, products and services. The event is officially endorsed by the IIRSM (International Institute of Risk and Safety Management).

A major element of Health and Safety – Scotland is the free seminar programme which is organised by the British Safety Council (BSC). Speaking at the seminar will be some of the foremost authorities in Scotland such as Dr. Paul Stollard, Director, HSE, Scotland who will be giving an overview of the Health and Safety challenges facing Scotland on the first day of the event.

The seminar programme encompasses the diverse range of working environments in Scotland from the offshore industry to construction while Andrew Sharman, Divisional Manager, Safety, Health and Wellbeing for the Royal Bank of Scotland addresses the office working environment and how to manage health and safety communication during time of corporate change.

Of appeal to those who work in any sector also will be the seminar which gives an update on health and safety law in Scotland. Delivered by Laura Cameron of McGrigors LLP this seminar will discuss the latest legislative trends and focuses. Looking forward to what she may cover on the day Laura said, “There is a general rush on enforcement just now and with the creation of the specialist prosecution division recently I expect this to have had some impact by September. Also, the HSE is looking more closely at individuals in companies, directors and managers, when it comes to prosecution and I’ll probably look at this area too.”

Until now, it has been difficult to gain direct access to the highest quality of independent safety information, health and safety product manufacturers and service providers. Now, with the launch of this event there is no longer a need for people to travel outside of Scotland to fulfil all their safety-related sourcing needs.

Tim Else, event director, says of the events: “Scotland has, in the past, been poorly served in the ways it can access the latest in health and safety, with those people who need this information required to travel great distances. Our aim is to deliver a high quality event at a logistically convenient location, free at the point of access for the visitor. ”
