Flexible solutions for respiratory protection from ARCO
March 31st 2011

Approximately 5.5 million workers are exposed to respiratory hazards in the workplace. Recent research by the British Safety Industry Federation (BSIF) and the HSE have highlighted concerns workers are exposed to risks due to respiratory protection equipment (RPE) not being effectively selected, used and maintained in a significant proportion of workplaces where a respiratory hazard exists. Arco is actively encouraging businesses in all industrial sectors to ensure their workers are fitted with adequate respiratory protection.

On completion of a suitable risk assessment the employer can make an informed decision about the type of RPE required to protect workers in any given situation. As part of its extensive range of products, Arco offers the modular Sundström 3 Stage Protection System which is designed to offer a flexible solution to over 90% of workplace respiratory hazards. Stage 1 – reusable half and full face respirators with a choice of highly efficient filters. Stage 2 – the SR500 powered respirator range for applications requiring protection for an extended duration, in hot environments or involving a lot of physical exertion. Stage 3 – Sundström airline respirators for environments where the risk is from pollutants that are particularly toxic or have poor warning properties.

The design and construction of the Sundström half and full face mask respirators ensures a good, reliable fit on the vast majority of faces. A poorly fitting face mask can cause long-term respiratory problems. Failure to adequately fit test wearers could see businesses failing to comply with the law. Arco is an accredited provider of Fit Testing under the BSIF’s Fit2Fit scheme and can provide a professional and reliable service.
