Expansion modules
August 1st 2006

Two Ethernet expansion modules have been introduced by Pilz Automation Technology for its PNOZmulti configurable modular safety controller for transferring data via Profinet/IO, EtherNet/IP or Modbus/TCP networks.

This means a PNOZmulti system can be incorporated easily within plants already using these protocols, reducing costs and enhancing diagnostics.

As an example of the new products, the PNOZ mc8p Ethernet IP and Modbus TCP fieldbus expansion module conforms to the requirements of VDE 0113-1, 11/98 and IEC 60204-1, 12/97.

It functions as a subscriber (slave) on an Ethernet IP or Modbus TCP network and communicates at both 10 and 100Mbit in full and halfduplex modes. An IP address can be assigned via a webpage and the unit has LED status indicators for onpanel diagnostics.

The expansion modules enable diagnostic data and other information to be downloaded from a PNOZmulti to a higher level control and monitoring system via Ethernet.
