Amf bypass switch
December 1st 2006

An Auto Mains Failure (AMF) system is used by many organisations as an integral part of their standby power system. However, Scorpion Power Systems says that if a fault should arise with the AMF, its interconnecting cables or control system, there could be a loss of mains power through the AMF changeover switch.

The company has launched a mechanical AMF bypass switch that will switch the mains supply directly from the input to the output in the event of a fault.

It can be installed as an integral part of an AMF panel. If a fault occurs, the switch can be operated to restore mains power supply to the load.

The switch is also a practical health and safety feature. When the AMF is serviced, the bypass switch isolates the power from the AMF to minimise the danger of touching live parts while working on terminals during testing. The ability to switch power during servicing prevents any risk of inadvertently dropping out the mains supply.
