Low cost switch
October 1st 2004

A new safety photoelectric switch system from Erwin Sick is said to provide maximum safety for minimum cost.

The L4000 is a Type 4, non-contact safety device that meets the requirements of IEC 61 496. Used to safeguard hazardous areas on machinery and control access to restricted areas, it is expected to interest machinery manufacturers and users alike.

It is designed to provide a versatile, compact and easy to install alternative to conventional light curtains.

The cornerstone of the system is the UE 401 safety evaluation unit (enclosure rating ip20), to which up to four individual sensor pairs transmitter/receiver combinations or up to eight cascaded sensor pairs, can be connected. Sensors are available with a choice of metal or plastic bodies and have safety switch optics and signal pre-processing built into standard M18 and M30 dia cylindrical housings.
