NETWORK SHARING HELPS CUT COSTS
October 1st 2004

The latest version of the Leuze Mayser Safe AS-i Bus system enables major cost savings by allowing non-safety devices to operate on the same network as the safety devices it was intended for, such as light curtains, grids and laser safety scanners.

In addition to a reduction in wiring hardware, the new BUS connectivity system is said to bring a significant cut in man-hours for installation.

Typical plants to benefit from the technology include those where highly automated processing takes place, such as in the manufacturing industry. Advantages include a much slimmer installation with just a single cable providing the network on which all devices plug.

Use of the Safe AS-i Bus system allows a simple method of connecting individual safety devices. Adding and removing devices is possible without disruption to the fieldbus circuit.

Up to 31 individual devices, such as emergency stop switches, safety light curtains and so on, can be supported on a single cable over 100m, without jeopardising safety.
