Shielding contractors

As part of the company's continued commitment to safety, the entire range of low voltage distribution equipment from the Merlin Gerin and Square D brands of Schneider Electric is now being fitted, as standard, with fingerproof voltage test points.

There are many occasions, particularly during commissioning and testing, when it is impossible to avoid working on electrical distribution equipment that has live incoming connections. The need to prove a voltage present or absent has been highlighted by the HSE as part of the testing process in an effort to reduce the potential for incidents on site. To address the inevitable hazards created by such a situation, Schneider Electric now fits robust screens where needed to shield incoming connections in all of its low-voltage distribution switchboards To facilitate testing, the screens are either drilled with test point holes that restrict finger access, while allowing the entry of test probes, or are clearly marked for the installer to drill these holes. The screens are IP2X rated and carry clear identification labels.

Low Voltage Authorised persons training courses are available from the Schneider Electric training centre.
