Specially developed safety switches
December 1st 2005

Mechan Controls has designed and produced 100 non-contact safety switches for the Cheshire-based heatsealing machinery specialist, ProSeal UK.

Andy Gray, electrical manager, wanted a magnetic safety switch similar to Mechan's Magnasafe MS.

However, he specified that the switch should have three contacts rather than the standard two, that it should operate on three faces and that it would need a bigger switching distance.

In just eight days Mechan delivered a sample. ProSeal then requested addition of a quick-disconnect facility and a greater switching distance.

A week later a second prototype was installed for testing on one of Proseal's heat-seal machines. It worked well, and the company subsequently ordered 100 units.

Easy to install, the switches are tolerant to misalignment and have a robust, stainless steel housing.
