Fan-less smoke venting motors
February 1st 2007

Smoke venting motors from ABB can now take advantage of the surrounding airstream for cooling when mounting inside a ventilation duct.

The motors do not require fans or fan covers and the high air flow available from the main ventilation fan in many cases enables the motor rating to be increased without exceeding the motor's temperature rise limits. ABB says that this means a smaller motor size can often be selected, giving cost savings.

The motors are designed to mitigate the development of fires in industrial and public buildings, tunnels and other locations. They have dual-purpose certification, enabling use also for standard ventilation.

The motors are tested to withstand temperatures to 400°C for two hours and comply with EN 12101-3.

They range from 0.55 to 560kW, IEC from sizes 80 to 400.
