Porta-Gantry, a lightweight and portable lifting system from Reid Lifting has replaced traditional steel gantries and improved safety for maintenance staff at British Waterways.

John Williamson, team supervisor for Central Shires Operations, says The Porta-Gantry has proved to be a good system that provides a modern solution to our manual handling problems.

Whereas it could have taken us two days to get the steel gantry by water to the locks, we can now achieve this in 2h across fields with Porta-Gantry.

Made from alloys that are said to be 70% lighter and to have 20% greater tensile strength than mild steel, the unit can be flatpacked for ease of transport.
