Fail-safe system
December 1st 2004

Tapeswitch has developed a fail-safe detection and control system that can be retrofitted to linear actuators to prevent people from being crushed by them.

The Tapeswitch system comprises a sensor (which could be a ribbon switch, sensing edge, touchpad, switching mat, etc.) and a safety control unit (which is designated the SLRC).

The SLRC can be simply connected between the actuator and it’s controller.

Linear Actuators are used in a wide variety of motioncontrol applications.

Often there can be a risk of trapping or crushing caused by the actuators motion, rarely does the actuator control system contain a fail-safe safety system to stop movement in the case of danger.

Normal operation of the SLRC will allow the actuator to move in both directions, however once the sensor is activated the SLRC will allow the actuator to move in the safe direction only, with the added panic function which incorporates a time-delay ensuring that the employee/ user is safe at all times.
