IR cameras for UK coal
October 1st 2005

Replacing its ageing stock of infrared cameras, UK Coal has opted for Flir Systems’ ThermaCAM E25 supplied by Proviso Systems.

The camera was tested at UK Coal by experts in environmental health, safety, mechanical and electrical engineering and, as a result, has been passed fit for use in areas at risk from fire and spontaneous combustion.

Minor modifications were requested to ensure that the 13 IR cameras supplied met the stringent safety requirements. These included Flir engineering a lens locking mechanism and Proviso developing a customised boot for the handle to protect the camera’s battery compartment.

Flir says the E25 is the world’s lightest, portable IR camera. It allows the operator to detect the subtle temperature variations generated during the early stages of a problem.
