Complies with EN ISO 13849-1
May 1st 2010

British safety switch manufacturer, Mechan Controls, has announced that its ISIS Coded Magnetic Safety System has undergone independent testing, which has confirmed its compliance with the new international standard for machine safety, EN ISO 13849-1.

ISIS is a simple, selfchecking system that combines coded magnetic non-contact safety switches with a control module capable of monitoring up to four safety switches and emergency stop buttons. In tests recently conducted by TÜV Nord, the system achieved a Category 3 rating, with Safety Integrity Level 3 and Performance Level E. The system uses fully encapsulated, tamper-resistant safety switches that are available in either red ABS or stainless steel. They are tolerant of both vibration and misalignment and they are suitable for use in a variety of environments, including the bottling and packaging, food and pharmaceutical industries where strict hygiene control regimes must be maintained.

ISIS immediately detects open and short-circuit faults in the connections to the safety switches, giving an immediate visual indication and moving the control unit to a safe state.
