Easy, accurate PMI September 1st 2009
PMI (Positive Material
Identification) is said to be the most
effective way to ensure that safetycritical
components installed on
process plants are to the correct
specification. The Occupational
Safety and Health Administration
(OSHA) in the USA has identified
thirty two fatality/catastrophe
incidents over a fifteen year period,
in the petrolium refining industry
alone. Many of these incidents,
which resulted in over fifty deaths
and 250 injuries occured as a direct
result of the use of incorrect alloy
material in a critical process
component. The latest hand held
XRF analysers from Niton make
inspection of complete systems and
individual parts faster, safer and
more accurate.
The newly introduced Niton
GOLDD handheld XRF analysers are
compact and lightweight allowing
operators and inspectors to use them
in almost all situations, including
when working at height or similar.
Niton is to hold seminars on the
use of handheld XRF analysers in
PMI testing and the guidelines and
procedures from the API (American
Petroleum Institute) RP-578
standard at a number of locations in
the UK throughout Octobber.
