Flammable gas detector
February 1st 2006

The ATEX certified Xgard Type 4 gas detector from Crowcon is designed to quickly detect flammable gases in high temperature applications (up to 150°C) such as gas turbines or gasfired drying ovens.

According to the HSE, at least one gas detector should always be installed if a gas turbine has a continuous gas supply. This detector should be located in the ventilation outlet, as a leak will always reach it.

Additional detectors can be installed at other points around the turbine to increase the probability of detecting small leaks.

Crowcon's Xgard Type 4 is suitable for Zone 1 and Zone 2 hazardous areas. The detector's sensor contains poison-resistant catalytic beads that can detect hydro carbons at high temperatures.

With a life of up to five years, the Xgard Type 4's sensor has a 316 stainless steel housing, with the choice of a marine grade aluminium or 316 stainless steel junction box for corrosion resistance in harsh environments.
