BURSTING PANELS ARE ATEX APPROVED
April 1st 2004

Pressure safety systems provider Elfab has received atex approval for its entire range of bursting panels.

The panels, certified as meeting the requirements of the European Directive 94/9/EC, will protect low-pressure ducting systems against damage caused by gas or dust explosions.

While it is desirable to prevent ignition of dispersed powders, suitable measures to mitigate the potential effects of an explosion should also be implemented.

In its new document, the HSE suggests that explosion relief venting should be one of the main protection measures adopted, and bursting panels are a well known method of satisfying this recommendation.

Panels deliver instant pressure relief through rapid and controlled exhaust venting. They are said to be fail-safe, leak-tight, maintenance-free and come in a variety of shapes and sizes. They will operate at a set pressure of 20 to 500 mbarg2, and are made from 304 or 316 stainless steel. They can be supplied pre-domed or with vacuum support.
