Workwear review leads to new clothes
August 1st 2006

In 2004, Severn Trent Water conducted an in-depth review of its workwear needs and, after investigating a range of fabrics and providers, opted for Gore-Tex and Windstopper fabrics in partnership with Cosalt: Ballyclare.

In addition to demanding manual work in sometimes hazardous conditions, many of the company's employees are exposed to foul weather conditions.

W.L. Gore and Associates offers highly flexible fabrics that perform year-round. The breathable and durably waterproof Gore-Tex membrane provides users with protection and physiological comfort.

Garments chosen include high visibility jackets and a windproof, moisture-wicking T-shirt that uses Gore's N2S (Next to Skin) fabric.

Also supplied were two new types of boot, a bomber-style Gore-Tex jacket for driving and a sweatshirt.

Severn Trent Water first worked with Cosalt:Ballyclare three years ago. Since then, its workwear costs have been reduced by 500 000.
