Caring for the feet
February 1st 2008

Safety footwear is essential for those working in potentially dangerous industries such as construction. For outdoor work, a good pair of safety boots will keep the feet warm, dry and well supported in the toughest of conditions.

Such footwear is designed to offer protection from falling objects, while steel toe caps can prevent foot lacerations, and steel midsoles offer protection against upturned nails.

According to statistics from the HSE, slips and trips remain the main cause of serious injuries in the construction industry. Many of these injuries could have been avoided if workers had been wearing the correct footwear for the task.

Managers must ensure that employees are correctly kitted out. Products such as Scruffs safety footwear, from Birchwood Products, can assist in this task.
