Celebrating 125 years of bootmaking
March 1st 2010

Toetectors is celebrating 125 years of boot making this year. The foundations of Totectors were laid in 1885 by Mr Wilkins and Mr B. Denton. In 1944, his successor, Mr G.

Denton acquired the rights to introduce the first steel "safety box toes" from into the UK from the USA.

The impetus for this was from the British Ministry of Labour, to counter the injuries being sustained to the miners engaged in the armament industry producing weapons for World War II. Totectors became the first company in Europe to introduce what eventually became known as steel toe safety shoes.

Totectors is now owned by an Indian company with a history of six generations in leather and shoe making. Totectors has recently invested millions of dollars in research and development. Products will be on show at the Safety & Health Expo.
