Get to grips with winter
October 1st 2007

Jal Group is urging the construction industry to get to grips with the prospect of another wet winter by addressing the slips and trips issue as early as possible.

The company says the wetter, more inclement winter weather increases the risk of slip and trip accidents happening on site – which account for over a quarter of all major accidents within the construction industry, according to HSE figures.

Jal Group, whose brands include Jallatte and Aimont, says that while virtually all footwear on site today provides the right levels of physical protection for the hazards encountered, not enough emphasis is being placed on the level of grip provided by the safety footwear sole unit.

The company provides a range of safety footwear suitable for the construction industry, including Jallatte Gore-Tex, Jalaska, the JEscape range, Trucker boots and Wellingtons.

The company's Stuart Thorne says "Where the winter months are concerned, issues of slip, comfort, waterproofness and warmth need to be considered just as closely as the physical protection being offered."
