Protection from curse of metatarsal
June 1st 2006

The saga of Wayne Rooney's metatarsal highlights just how susceptible our feet are to injuries. The foot is an intricate piece of engineering made up of 26 bones, 33 joints, 19 muscles and 107 ligaments, combining to propel us effortlessly through the day.

Dickies (UK) produces a wide range of safety footwear that will protect the feet from work-related injuries caused by crushing, punctures and slippery surfaces. The company provides safety footwear for most work environments traditional ankle boots, Rigger and dealer boots, safety Wellingtons, hiker boots, trainers and shoes, including 'executive' styles such as the Safety Oxford Shoe and Brogue.

Steel toe-caps conform to EN345 (200 Joules), which means the footwear can withstand the impact of 20kg falling on to the toes from a height of 10.2m. It gives compression protection corresponding to about 1.5t resting on the toe area.

A flexible steel midsole features in many of the styles to protect the foot from sharp objects underfoot.

The durable, heavy-duty soles have slip-resistant treads.
