Tests galore ensure footwear's credentials
June 1st 2008

Gore Products for Workwear appreciates that any piece of footwear is only as good as its weakest part, which is why Gore tests more than 14 000 components per year to ensure quality is maintained throughout the manufacturing process.

To prove suitability for the user and to ensure wearer comfort, almost every component element of a workwear shoe or boot, from the outer material through to the laces are chosen with care and then subjected to tough testing.

For example, all textile lining material is tested to withstand up to 100 000 rotations in an abrasion trial. During production a waterproof test is carried out in a centrifugal testing machine and a walking simulator walks a shoe through water for up to 500km. In addition, Gore's Whole Boot Comfort Test measures how much sweat can escape the shoe during use.
