August 1st 2008 Following requests from its
staff, Volkswagen has placed
a major order with Swedish
manufacturer of safety and
occupational shoes Arbesko.
The deal went through
after several years of
rigorous tests.
Arbesko already supplies
its products to Scania, Volvo
AB and Saab among others.
Volkswagen has shown an
interest in Arbesko's
products since 2004, after
the German company's staff
said they felt their work
exposed them to risk of
injury and fatigue.
The specified footwear is
called VW452 and was
developed especially for
Volkswagen, based on the
popular 452 model. The shoe
has several of Arbesko's
characteristic features
including Energy Gel, an
elastic gel cushion built into
the shoe's heel to provide
maximum support and shock
absorption, particularly for
people who stand and walk
on hard floors all day.
Thanks to its elasticity,
Energy Gel is also said to
