Insert comfort
April 1st 2005

Employees often complain about foot, knee and back pain. Many such complaints lead to high employee turnover, compensation claims and days off.

One solution is to introduce cushion/fatigue mats into the workplace.

However, A. Algeos points out that this does not help in occupations where the employee is mobile.

An alternative solution is to introduce ‘orthotic’ shoe inserts/insoles into the workplace. These supply a cushion interface between the foot and the floor. This reduces exertion on the foot and, hence, biomechanical pressures across the body.

Inserts are available in 3/4in length to accommodate tight fitting work boots and the company says that a study shows a significant improvement in back pain when inserts are used.

No fitting is required as inserts are designed to match specific shoe sizes.

They are machine washable and are designed to last for one year. The company says costs are lower for shoe inserts than for matting and that they require less maintenance.
