PROTECTION WHEN THE HEAT IS ON
October 1st 2004

DuPont Nomex brand fibre is available in a wide range of PPE, from turnout gear worn by firefighters to flame resistant coveralls for electrical workers and Formula One racing drivers, as well as poloshirts, underwear and socks.

The heat and flame resistance properties of the fibres last the life of a garment, through rigorous wear and laundering.

Garments are tested on life-size mannequins: Thermo-Man; Arc-Man and SAM (sweating articulated mannequin), to evaluate their performance in lifelike scenarios.

Thermo-Man, for example, has 122 thermal sensors and assesses the performance of garments under realistic flash fire conditions where temperatures can rise to 1000°C.

Nomex scores high on safety as it does not melt or drip, has good wicking properties and will selfextinguish when removed from the heat source.
