Cutting the cut risk
June 1st 2005

Since introducing PPE incorporating DuPont’s Kevlar fibre, accidents at Pilkington’s float glass manufacturing facilities have reduced in severity and cuts have moved from number 1 to number 3 in the injury list.

Dave Donkin and David Ash, UK health and safety managers at Pilkington, explain “Kevlar gloves provide superior cut and heat resistance in addition to being lightweight and offering improved manual dexterity”.

To further reduce injuries, co-operation between DuPont Personal Protection, Pilkington personnel and fabric producer, Dale Techniche, has led to a new range of sweatshirts and jackets incorporating Kevlar fibre being developed.

On extended trial at many Pilkington sites, Chieftain garments are lightweight and combine comfort with the highest (Level 5) cut resistance for increased body protection.
