Glove helps cut infection risk June 1st 2006 Needlestick injuries are on the increase in the UK with the waste industry alone reporting about 4000 accidents each year.
A glove developed by Mapa uses new technology to protect anyone handling syringes or those at risk during body searches or when in contract with infected waste products or sharp objects.
The Mapa BioPro glove protects against tearing by sharp objects and is able to reduce any viral exposure transmitted following an accident. It does this while retaining the ergonomics of a thin, dexterous glove.
The glove has three layers of synthetic rubber. The middle layer contains a liquid disinfectant in the form of micro droplets. If the glove is pierced, a specific mechanism maximises the amount of disinfectant at the point of impact, significantly reducing the viral load transmitted to the wearer.
