Matching glove to job June 1st 2004 Use of appropriate gloves has cut hand injuries at Clugston Construction
When Clugston Construction embarked on a strategy of mandatory hand protection for all its construction sites, it approached Parker Merchanting (and its supplier BM Polyco) for help.
Traditionally gloves used in the construction industry have been the general-purpose types, such as knitwrist or leather rigger gloves that provide basic levels of comfort and either minimal or immediate risk protection.
The selection of alternative gloves for specific applications has not in the past been widely adopted with workers often complaining that they were unable to do certain jobs while wearing gloves.
The first task for BM Polyco and Parker, therefore, was to inform Clugston Construction safety managers of the range of highly specialised fit-for-purpose gloves available for their workers.
Parker offered Clugston Construction free trials of different kinds of hand protection, ensuring not only that regulatory specifications were met, but that gloves were comfortable and fit-for-purpose.
A variety of gloves were selected that gave a wide range of trades suitable protection against cuts, bruises, lacerations, superficial scratches, chemical hazards and dermatitis.
So extensive was the choice of gloves available to the company that a bespoke poster campaign was initiated to launch the concept of the right glove for the right job.
The A2 posters were designed and printed by BM Polyco and Parker and include glove details, hand size guide and order codes. More articles from Parker Merchanting: |
