Reducing the risk of viral contamination
December 1st 2006 Many medical workers are exposed on a daily basis to the risks of viral infection due to the inherent hazards and materials present in their working conditions. Other industry sectors too are exposed to these risks, where needles, sharp objects and infected waste products pose a threat to their safety. Available from Mapa Professionel, the BioPro glove is designed to afford protection. It uses G-VIR Technology and consists of three specific layers. The external layer is in contact with objects and instruments. It is said to have excellent chemical resistance and mechanical properties. The middle layer contains a liquid disinfectant. If the glove is perforated, the disinfectant is dispersed in the form of micro-droplets (about 300 million droplets per glove). The internal layer separates the glove wearer from the disinfected middle layer and has an inert coating which helps the wearer don the glove. All layers are made from synthetic rubber that is said to have excellent elasticity and mechanical properties that are similar to those of natural rubber and which does not require chemical vulcanisation.
