Indicates when to change helmet
October 1st 2007

Damage done to a work helmet is caused by three main factors. Falling objects, corrosive chemicals and the sun.

Peltor points out that, when working outside, the sun's UV rays gradually degrade a helmet's plastic, eventually putting the safety of the wearer at risk.

The problem, says Peltor, is that it is hard to tell the difference between a new and a UV-aged helmet.

The Peltor Uvicator offers a solution. It is built into the helmet and has a display shaped like a small clock.

At the outset, it will be filled with a bright red colour. With the passage of time and the helmet's exposure to sunlight, the Uvicator will gradually fade.

When it has turned completely white, it is time to change the helmet.
