Oi! plug it up
February 1st 2009

A new earplug from uvex is said to have resolved the problems of increased body-noise perception, wearer discomfort and excessive noise attenuation which can prevent the wearer from hearing warning signals and normal communication. Called hi-com, the uvex design has been registered for a patent, and is said to significantly reduce the distracting inner sounds which some other earplugs reflect back to the ear-drum.

The surface area of the uvex hi-com includes a number of indentations which increase its absorbency and create a softer acoustic profile. This improves wearer comfort and makes communication between workers easier despite its effective noise attenuating properties. The surface facing the eardrum is more noise absorbent by design, and normal head 'noises' that can often be detected by specialist instrumentation are significantly reduced for the wearer.
