February 1st 2005 The Peltor Lite-Com is a series of radio headsets that combine hearing protection with communication radio.
Two new models are offered.
Lite-Com Basic has all communication radio functions controlled by three simple buttons.
Volume, channel settings and other adjustments are confirmed with a voice message in the headset, so the wearer does not risk hearing damage by removing the headset to check settings. The device communicates on the license-free 446MHz frequency band.
The Lite-Com III version is also a hearing protector with built-in communication radio, but it also has an electronic active-volume feature. The headset has microphones on the outside that capture ambient sound and reproduce it in the earphones.
