AA protection
August 1st 2005

When the AA needed uniforms for its 3000 patrols, it was essential that, in addition to being comfortable to wear, they provided high visibility and complied with EN471:2003 and EN343:2003. They also needed to be waterproof and easy to keep clean.

Bell Apparel’s FLEXIBell with Gore-Tex fabric was chosen. The FLEXIBell system is in two parts: an outer and an inner layer, with the inner layer made from high performance Gore-Tex liner.

Simon Lubacz from Gore explains “A comfortable climate inside the jacket is ensured because moisture vapour from perspiration escapes through the liner and passes through the outer shell.

“If it gets trapped inside clothing it means that the garment is not cooling the person and a sauna effect is created. It condenses and causes dampness and discomfort.” The Gore-Tex liner is waterproof, windproof and breathable.

The outer layer of the system attaches and detaches easily to the inner layer. The outer layer withstands cleaning at high temperatures to maintain EN471 conformity and a smart appearance.
